Bo-Kaap, nestled on the slopes of Signal Hill in Cape Town, is a vibrant, historic neighborhood known for its cobblestone streets and brightly colored houses. Originally established in the 1760s as housing for enslaved people brought from Southeast Asia, the area became a cultural hub for the Cape Malay community after slavery was abolished in 1834.
Its colorful homes are believed to symbolize freedom and identity, as early residents painted their houses in celebration of emancipation.
